Match this Saturday the 13th of November

hello everyone. I look forward to having another great time at the next match. we have a really fun group of shooters. we have a new score board for the club and Ernie O has made some new sight in targets for us. a big thank you Ernie for your efforts. Ernie donated 4 of them when the club first opened. they were so good i requested him to make 7 more for a total of 11 on the course. this time  Ernie included brackets on the back side to hold a card board backer, and it then can be dropped in as opposed of using masking tape to hold it on the frame. the result is a more streamed line approach for set up. look forward to seeing them. they should be real nice.

IMPORTANT--

for this month and perhaps next month we will be setting up on trap lane #2 instead of where we usually are on trap lane #6. the range is undergoing a lead abatement process and we have been asked to move over a bit. this will give us some new ground to shoot on so it should be exciting. however, the parking is not so good so park to the left of the retail store and access the firing line through the chain link fence.
or call me at 916 752 6762. you shouldn't have problems finding us though. :) we will have shade too but the weather is indicating the temperature to be in the mid 60's so the morning ought to be brisk. bring a jacket :) we also need to get rolling a bit earlier than what we have been doing. last match was much better on start time, but we need to have the safety meeting at around 930 am. so this means setting up is at least an hour with some sight in practice. i think this can be achieved quite easily and in the end we will end at around 12:30, start a bbq, then go right into Pistol f/t for a 24 shot course and end by 2:00 pm. we can tear down after that and if guys want to hang around and talk for as long as they like is great. i think we will have more shooters attending when we start on time and end on time so they can plan there day accordingly. see ya there. i can't wait to see everyone again

October 9th Match Report

The weather was extremely nice! the high was 86 degrees on a the second Saturday of October. Wow. what a super fun time as all had indicated. i first would like to thank all the members for there continued support. it is much appreciated. a special thanks to Jim C, Jim R, and Ernie O
for getting to the club early for set up. they all beat me this time. thanks guys. Guy and Riz showed up just as we finished setting up as they were coming up from the bay area.

After sighting in with the rifles and pistols, the guys whipped out there Quigley guns :) the Quigley shoot off is to simulate an 800 yard standing shot using a fire arm just scaled down for air guns. thanks you guys for bringing them and contributing to the new shoot at Golden State FTC. everyone participated shooting the Quigley guns in practice. at Easton Field Target, we have a 12 fpe limit when shooting this class. the rifle also has to use the factory stock. this will put shooters on a more level playing field and in true Quigley fashion imo. targets are supposed to be placed out at 55 yards but we moved em in a bit to 45 ish given the open ground and wind we get at the club. every one hit at least one target in practice. not too shabby for the first time out imo.

Guy won the Quigley shoot off followed by Riz and Ernie who tied for 2nd.
Guy also won the main event with a score of 43/46 and is burning up everything in sight. training for nationals is where Guy has been concentrating on lately. he is our lethal weapon over here on the west coast and look forward to him tearing it up in a couple of weeks in MD. may the force be with him :)

when it came to pistol f/t, Ernie O turned up the heat and only dropped 2 out of the 24 shot course. that is smoken hot and tied Guy O for 1st. i feel Riz set up one the best course we have had so far in pistol. we had a 3/8 inch kz, 1/2 inch kz along with an elevated shot at 30 yards up high in the wind. so no babies game here. lol. both parties felt pretty good about there performance so we called it a great day and left the scores stand with 2 winers in pft. great work guys. finishing a close second was Riz. he is also one great shot in what ever he picks up.

Mean while Jim c is burning up the lanes in hunter again. what an outstanding performance he has shown being so new to hunter f/t. i look for him to be Easton's  ringer when it comes to this devision with Jim R on his heels. as soon as Jim R works out some issues with his rig, look out. he is a commen. :)

In open class Riz dominated again with his USFT. he thought he would give this rig a try today and did very well although we all new he had left a few targets out there standing that just should not have been. that wind at Easton F/T can sure be crazy sometimes---gusting when you least expect it.

911 Match Report

I arrived at the club around 730 am to start setting up the course. with in a short time a few shooters started to roll up under the shade trees. Jim C and Jim R showed up first if i remember correctly and helped out with the set up. then Jon B showed up with a big smile who drove all the way down from Eureka near the Oregon boarder. so we continued our conversation while checking all the targets before the match. there will be an air gun show in Roseville (near Sacramento) March 5th and 6th, 2011, and Jon is in charge of it. he can be reached at 707-498-8714 or
pae@pacificairgunexpo.com
the event should be a fun one, and everyone needs to spread the word. more to follow later. then Ernie showed up from the Grass Valley area.

about 900am i got a call from Tony I. hey where are ya i said. he replied "i am in traffic, and it ain't moven". LOL. i said not to worry and to call up Guy O from the bay area and find out where he is. got a call back shortly there after and both are in minutes of the shoot, and all looks very good. a total of 7 shooters this time and over 10 shooters in the pipe line. the club is growing but we need to hit 50 shooters by July 1st, 2011. so a great deal of work to do yet in the promoting dept.

around 1030am the Blue Angles flew over, and i managed to get some incredible shots with the camera. as it turned out, Mather Air Force base just 2 miles away was hosting an air show in memory of the attack on American soil 9 years ago.

all of us got a super big treat as stealth bombers, fighters, f22 rapters, and more flew over head. a very stellar display of American fire power. :)

all the guys had a super great time. i think the air gun talk is at least 1/2 the reason why gunners like us get together. we had a nice BBQ and the links and grill were provided by Tony I. so a big thank you Tony. Jim R brought some of his wife's home made cookies. mmmmmm those were tasty !!!!!!!!! thank you Jim. combined with the home made pie you made last time, you are starting to spoil us big time!!

the course was pretty hard this time and the scores reflected it a bit. as a new match director i am finding a balance to the level of difficulty but everyone seemed to like it. shooting open ground is very challenging. Guy O can clean a course. i had to give him a challenge, and he seemed to think it was with one exception being that the targets could have been placed a few yards further on the 4 or 5 of the longest ones. Guy was the match winner with a score of 41/44. he forgot to click on one target missing a 3/8 inch KZ at close range, plated a standing shot, and missed one of the further targets as it split on the edge. very nice shooting Guy and may your trip to the Nationals be fruitful.

Jim C took 1st place in hunter and is dominating that division. he has been at the club since the day it opened. thanks Jim for your continued support. Jim R has also been with us since the begging in a round a bout way. he showed the first time just to check us out. thank you also for your support and help on the course setting up and everything. you guys are much appreciated.

Ernie brought some site in target and donated them to the club. thank you very much Ernie. that is a very nice thing to do. Ernie has just started shooting f/t and dove right in with both hands and doing fantastic shooting along side shooters who have been doing this for a long time. great job. poi was off with Ernies rifle this match. back to the drawing board and look for him to easily improve next time.

Tony I won Pistol and Open class and is also winning a great deal at Golden State. he kicked off the season in winning the Tin Man award. one is being made and i shall present it to him when oppertunity arises. i will save that for another write up. he has helped out in getting the shooters here and spreading the word about Golden State f/t. we need everyone to help out in that area. we have a fun group and need more shooters to make it that much more fun!!

p.s. click on the pictures above for an exploded view. once opened click again for a huge view.
